As we know by now, at least those of us who have been involved in photography for a little while, that when practicing it, you can come to experience a light feeling of connectedness to the world around you, which comes from this amazing sense of presence. This is often the feeling we are trying to achieve when practicing Meditation. A calm state of mind and an ease and acceptance with what is.

It is my passion going out in nature and syncing with its tunes, hence my practice of landscape and wildlife photography. Through this experience I found that wildlife photography is a powerful medium which immerses you in nature's stillness. It offers a unique opportunity to observe and capture the beauty and behavior of animals in their natural habitats, and engaging in it and with it, can bring you back to a state of presence in several ways.
It requires a mindful observation to capture a compelling wildlife photograph. You must be fully present and attentive to your surroundings, and practice the ability to notice even the tiniest details in the environment, which only comes with observation and patience. As you focus on the present moment, your mind becomes less cluttered with distractions and worries, allowing you to experience a state of mindfulness.
Spending time in the wilderness and being surrounded by wildlife fosters a sense of deep connection with the natural world. When you immerse yourself in nature, you may experience a calming and grounding effect, reducing stress and anxiety.
It often involves waiting for the perfect moment to capture a shot, and during this process, some photographers experience a flow state — a mental state of complete absorption and focus on the task at hand. Allowing you to witness incredible moments and behaviors that may be otherwise missed or overlooked.
Being in the presence of wild animals and capturing their interactions can evoke a sense of awe, bringing you back to a childlike curiosity about the world and creating a bigger appreciation for life's wonders.
Opening space for oneself to let go of worries, becoming less likely to dwell on past regrets or future anxieties. The process of setting up shots, adjusting camera settings, and focusing on what is unfolding before you, helps divert your attention away from negative or repetitive thoughts, enabling you to be more present.
Wildlife photography allows you to witness the beauty and fragility of nature, reminding us of our place in the grand scheme of life. This can cultivate feelings of gratitude and humility, as you become more aware of the interconnectedness of all living beings. In conclusion, wildlife photography offers a powerful and immersive experience that can bring you a lot to gain. By immersing yourself in nature, observing wildlife, and using your camera to capture these intrinsic moments, you can find a deeper connection to life as a whole, leading to increased well-being and a greater appreciation for being alive.
